"Senior Project" Redux

* I could be ready to present my “Senior Project” later this week, if required… I feel very prepared, as I continue to work on my skills (both on-air and off) and update my resume daily. The following is my original “Senior Project Proposal”:

* I want my senior project to highlight my skills as a writer, producer, and reporter for both radio and television news. My goal is to use my work on Digital 88.9 News and The County Line as a means of creating a great resume and resume tape(s). With a flexible timeline, I believe I can easily reach my goals of compiling a professional body of work.

* I plan to air-check all of my on-air work weekly so I’m able to evaluate the areas I need to improve upon and also have a dub of anything and everything that has resume potential. I also want others to evaluate my work & give me feedback.

* My senior project has undoubtedly shifted most of it’s focus to radio announcing. Most of my on-air work will also come from commercial broadcasting at WKST and Froggy 95. I’ve already created, sent out, and received feedback on my first “real” resume CD; an updated resume CD is in the works. I plan to aircheck a few WKST newscasts later this week/early next week. I need to get our morning show aircheck from Pat & Megan in the Morning from Pat, so that I can get some good stuff from that, too. And, of course, I have my airchecks from Froggy 95 and Titan Radio DJ night shifts. I want to put together a resume “draft” as soon as possible; have it/them reviewed by Dr. B, John Thomas, & Ken Hlebovy; and APPLY (for full-time job openings)!

* I hope to become involved with The County Line again this semester. I’ve found some interesting story ideas that I’d love to cover. I also have a scanner in my apartment now (news nerd, I know) so *hopefully* I will be able to catch AT LEAST one “breaking news” story that will shine on my resume tape. I feel that I’m very ready to create professional news packages – I just need to make the time to do so this semester. After I get a few (hopefully!) more, I would like to have Mr. Weaver and WKBN “photog” Tom Pellegrini review those packages so I can put together an awesome television news resume tape.

* My overall goals in broadcasting remain the same – to end up with a full-time job on-air (and possibly behind-the-scenes as well) and to be HAPPY! If I continue to work hard and progress toward these goals, I have no doubt I can reach them!

It appears you've covered all the basics-- now you just need a database of places to blanket your resumes-- and keeping tabs on positions posted in markets you would like to work.

Megan - I went down to the convention center this weekend for the car show, and Froggy was there! I don't know which station it was or anything, but I was hoping to see one of you guys, or maybe just one of you guys as the frog, lol, but I didn't. I tried though! and thanks for the card!
