Announcing
As I mentioned before, Radio and Television Announcing was my favorite -- and most inspirational class -- as a broadcaster at Westminster. As for the most inspiring TV-related activities:
1) MAKEUP! Doing the guys' makeup, and learning more about professionally applying my own -- VERY helpful pre-County Line. Ask Mr. Weaver, I begged him EVERY SEMESTER to convince his wife to teach the "Makeup Workshop".
2) Look Lives. SO IMPORTANT in TV! & VERY important @ WC -- as we have very limited live reporting opportunities. This exercise is one I will never forget. It was my first time working with Mr. Weaver as my cameraman -- which, surprisingly, didn't make me nervous. & it was also good to work outside, having to worry about the wind, sun glare, etc.
3) Creating a Package. Even if TV is not your goal, it's SUCH a good experience. It makes you appreciate SO much more what reporters go through on a day-to-day basis. You're also so closely involved with producers, graphic artists, anchors, and editors (which is usually the reporters duty, too) -- it's a good way to also learn the teamwork involved in a newsroom.
