JOZ Poolside Hogroast
Last night, our Sizzlin' Summer Giveaway came to an end at JOZ Trackside Lounge Poolside Hogroast. Listeners registered over a month-or-so period at different "sponsor locations". On Monday, 100 names were randomly picked from those who registered. Those 100 listeners were invited to the Hogroast at JOZ.
Unfortunately, the turnout for the event was rather poor. Only 27 of the 100 people drawn from the various sponsor locations showed up with a friend or spouse to enjoy the event. However, we made the best of it -- everyone who showed up received tickets to either Geauga Lake, The Beach Waterpark (in Cincy), Cedar Point, or the upcoming Alan Jackson/Sara Evans show... and a WNCO T-shirt.
After we drew tickets so each contestant could win a prize we threw all the tickets in a box and drew the Grand Prize winner for a two-night trip to the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls, Canada. The couple that won couldn't have been happier -- they are big gamblers & also huge fans of our station.
The hogroast included sweet corn on the cob, baked beans, potato salad, & soda pop. Alcoholic beverages were available for a small fee (c'mon, we were at a bar!) "Rockin'" Bob Day DJed the event (which really wasn't remote-worthy, since it was exclusive). Lisa & I linedanced... the morning crew told some jokes... all in all, it was a great time.
NEXT YEAR... Here are things that need to be different if we hold this contest again next year:
* There were no decorations. It was POOLSIDE. Matt Appleby & I say next year should be a LUAU THEME. We want to decorate.
* We should make winners invited to the hogroast aware that in case of rain, we'd still hold the party indoors. The bar had plenty of room for everyone -- & there is also a reception hall that we could've easily utilized! I think many people didn't show up due to the weather.
* The Blake Shelton concert was the same night at the Huron County Fair. We gave tickets away to this ... and promoted the event. You can't do BOTH big events on the same day.
