At Your Request
The Leann Rimes show at Taste of Cleveland was amazing. I really don't think I'd be the same person without her musical influence. From her (indirectly, of course, since we're not friends or anything!) I found my love for country music and also for singing. It was very cool to finally see her perform. The PovertyNeck Hillbillies had a decent turnout for Cleveland, too.
On Friday, I talked with my boss about changing the night of our request show. (It currently runs on Thursday evenings.) We have 5 upcoming weeks of our Karaoke Roadshow Contest that I will either have to miss out on... or fake requests. I really feel faking requests is unfair to listeners, so I worked on a proposal for about a week (with the help of some of my coworkers and some sales friends). I weighed out all the pros and cons, thought everything through... at first, my program director took a "because I said so approach" (which I had anticipated) -- he wasn't even going to read my proposal. I don't remember which class taught me to leave paperwork behind (probably one of Dr. B's... that's where I learned the sneakiest tactics!), but Ron did eventually read my proposal. Unfortunately, nothing is going to change (which is basically how things go around here... making it REALLY hard being the new girl with fresh-from-college and high-on-life-and-broadcasting ideas... but on a positive note, I'm learning to deal with rejection. Maybe I could move on to sales if I ever tire of being a radio star.
This morning and afternoon, WNCO took requests for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Listeners called in to make pledges $10 and up to hear or dedicate a song of their choice. We raised around $3,000 -- not too shabby! Want to donate?
