I LOVE Christmas "Break"!

This Week in Broadcasting...
* Amy & I went to the PAB Career Fair at Duquesne last night. I think it was a valuable experience -- a chance to "mingle" with people in the business. I found out about a few job openings and potential openings -- & gave my resume & CD to EVERYONE! I also got plenty of great advice -- some that reiterates advice from Mr. Weaver, Dr. B, and others -- and some new tips, also.
* It felt really great to talk about all of my broadcasting experience! Between school and work, I feel very prepared for "the real world". Westminster broadcasters are always standouts, as many of my fellow capstone students have learned from working with students at other colleges with less hands-on experience (if any!) I also have more to boast about -- I'm already in the business. That's a great feeling -- knowing that most of the people I'll be competing for jobs against don't have ANY commercial broadcasting experience.
* Afternoon news @ WKST & Sunday night DJ/Board Op for Froggy 95 continues this week...

Career Goals...

* After stating and re-stating my goals in radio and television at the Career Fair, my goals haven't changed. I LOVE radio -- and ideally will end up with a morning show host position sometime down the road. I also love radio news because of its immediacy. & I miss reporting for television -- which is something I plan to step-up next semester. I need to freshen up my resume tape & to sharpen my reporting skills.

Media-Related News...

* I read in the New Castle News that Howard Stern was dropped from FOUR more stations because he can't stop promoting Sirius Satellite radio. I honestly think he's a little crazy -- because he doesn't talk much about anything else anymore! If anything, his over-promotion might hurt him because listening to him preach about satellite over and over again is defintely getting old!

Other News...

* Amy, Jim, Susie, & I saw the PovertyNeck Hillbillies (Check out their schedule!) last night. At the risk of promoting as much as Howard... GO SEE THEM! You won't be disappointed.
* Erin (North Hills buddy) & I won a karaoke contest on Wednesday! That's my 3rd one in 3 years :)
*Mr. Weaver commented to one of my previous posts that it doesn't really seem like "break" now that I'm working. As much as I joke about not getting a break, I do feel like I have SO much free time without school. My favorite difference between the two (work & school) is that once I leave the station, I don't have anything else to do except my normal errands and "Me-time". While classes are going on, I have all that PLUS a few nights (or sometimes every night) of studying. If I wasn't working here, I'd be working somewhere else. I'd probably be making more money if I did that (haha), but I wouldn't get the experience or be happy.
